Squid Girl (Shelia "Squiddy" Mc Squiderson) is mt fantasy creature who swims in the ocean of my brain. She seems a little annoyed today, who knows why she's quite changeable , much like the sea.
This is a combination of my sketch modified in photoshop with an added collage element of "Goldie" the gold fish>What HE's doing in the OCEAN is again just "because". I take no responsibility for the characters who live in my head. credit where credit is due: gold fish from phantompanther-stock.deviantart.com/ thank you
2nd sketch working on adding some colour in photoshop..lots let to do, not sure I actually do decent work in Photoshop.
I may transfer with my light board then hand colour it with prismacolor pencils...still deciding.
It is exciting! I was so pleasantly surprised, some of the bits like the eyes /lips were pretty detailed I wasn't sure they were going to work out.
The easy cut definitely helped with that!
Now up on Ebay for NFAC
starts at .99
This is for tonight Nibblefest starting at 7pm EST on Ebay!
Here's a LINK to the auction: Big Daddy Roth
Ed "Big Daddy" Roth (March 4, 1932 – April 4, 2001) was an artist and cartoonist who created the hot-rod icon Rat Fink and other extreme characters.
This months Nibblefest theme was Rodents, and I thought to my self
"Self, what are you going to do with that?!"
I'm not really a cute story book mouse type painter. Then I remembered one of my childhood heroes. "RAT FINK! and the man who created him.
SO, in tribute to Ed Roth, who gave me hours of pleasure not only as a child but also as an adult (I still have some Weirdos models in my basement waiting to be painted as we speak) , I give you the Big Daddy Roth & Rat Fink portrait.
This is an original oil painting , working from black and
white and interpreting what colours should be there I hope I managed to
get the feeling of those crazy hot-rod beatnik days!
Roth & Rat Fink have been painted on a wooden floor board
pulled out of an over 100 year old factory which has been gessoed to
protect the painting, I have left the side UNPAINTED .I wanted it to
have that homemade feeling so typical of hot-rods of the day!
"This is my entry in the Nibblefest Art Contest, a themed art contest beginning on the 20th of each month. Please be sure to search for NFAC to see more great entries, each starting at just 99¢. Thanks!" please note due to the ebay strike we moved Nibblefest till the 27th to avoid any conflict with sellers who were participating in the strike.
OK so I only decided today that this was finished. I was waffling about doing more to it, but instead I listened to my gut ( and a few comments from painter friends) and decided to call it done. Naming it is still up in the air...
I'm a bit annoyed becuase I'll have to filter this because "This may be offensive or otherwise not for the public. Exclude from public explore pages." which drives me nuts... it's not offensive it's just a painting for god sake...
It's oil 8x8 inches on gallery wrapped canvas with the sides painted black.... I've actually done more work on the background...
